The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Firstly, I must say that I am quite surprised to see him in such a good shape. I have expected to see a people in a good spirit, but not that good physically. He is too young, which makes the reality even crueler.

The list of his child dreams:
1 Being in zero gravity (catch any opportunity & never give up)

2 Playing in the NFL

( I think it is really beneficial for the children to "learn" a kind of sport, which I mean with all that fundamental trainings, hard work, failure and success, teamwork, power of enthusiasm, sportsmanship and perseverance. "head fake learning" !!!!!!!!!

If you do something when you are young enough and trained for it, it will be part of your life.

When you screwed up and nobody said anything to you anymore, that means they gave up.

Your critics are telling you they still love you and care.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.)

3 Authoring an article in the world book encyclopedia

4 Being Captain Kirk

5 Winning stuffed animals (Lovely!!!) (Family first!)(I really admire his happy family~~~)

6 Being a Disney Imagineer

(catch any opportunity & never give up)

(He asked all the great minds he knew for good questions and —— remembered them~~~)

(Working with the amazing people will teach you a lot!

& Working in a different field will you inspire you a lot!

Being a professor and you can have a cake and eat it too!? )

Actually, I still doubt if child dreams mean that much. But I really admired him. In some way, he did realized them. I think it is mostly because that he did not go far away from his dreams, he had always sticked to them in some way and there is amazing relationships between things we did not see!!!

Other things I learnt:

Edutainment

Share

It is happier to help others to enable their dreams

Let the kids paint their bedrooms

the art of talk

Have fun!

Never lose the child-like wonder!

Loyalty is a two-way street

When it comes to men that are romantically interested in you, it is really simple, just ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what they do.

He was rejected by Brown AND CMU BUT he was admitted finally!!!

HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO HELP YOU:

You can't get there alone and I believe in Karma

Tell the truth

Be earnest (hip is short term but earnest is long term)

Apologize when you screw up

Focus on others not yourself

BRICK WALLS LET US SHOW OUR DEDICATION (I reallly don't know if I ever have that great power which can be called dedication……and that may be my biggest pity and I do want to change it !)

Get a feedback loop; and listen to it! cherish and use it

Show gratitude!

Don't complain; just work harder!

IMPORTANT ADVICE

Be good at something: it makes you valuable

Work hard

Find the best in everybody; no matter how you have to wait for them to show it

Be prepared: "luck" is where preparation meets opportunity

It is very important to know when you are in a pissing match, and it is very important to get out of it as quickly as possible.

The "Head fake": It is not about "how to achieve your dreams" it is about how to lead your life. Because if you lead the right way, the karma will take care of itself and dreams will come to you.

The piles of awards and honors at the end of the lecture, which should have make people cheerful, were actually the saddest part of this lecture, by claiming the end of the life of a great professor in the field of Computer-Human Interaction as well as edutainment by bridging computer and arts. And the lecture of Andy at last makes us cry. There is so much to admire and so much to learn in Randy's brilliant but short life.
